Bunch of Mumblers!

So today just about our entire pre-sessional group went to a little town across the bay from Swansea called Mumbles. The town, like what seems like every other, has a small ruined Norman castle. What's so amazing to me is that almost every where you go there is some peace of history. Whether it be an old abbey or half ruined estate it is constantly evident how old this place is. It almost makes me feel like all of America is a new cookie cutter development that just popped up on the world map. I mean really, what does a civil war fort from the 1800's have on Castle built in 1100 that has been ransacked and destroy three times since?

On the social side of my trip everything has been going well. That are a lot of interesting people here with a broad range of personalities. What does sort of disappoint me is that the pre-sessional is almost exclusively filled with American students. There are two German students and one Dutchman (who are all mad cool) but its not exactly an international experience. I look forward to when the rest of the students come in a couple weeks and I get the chance to really interact with people from all over the world.

  1. So glad you are blogging about your adventures Adam! I felt the same way in Germany, when I was looking at the old churches and such. Makes our US history seem a little "youthful" ;) Are you going anywhere else in Europe?

  2. Hopefully I will be traveling around. Definitely going to Paris at the moment and fairly sure on Berlin. But the post I'm working on now goes into that travel stuff so you'll have to read on. :)
