Today was supposed to be my 3rd and final day of hiking. After the tough hike yesterday I was a bit sore and had yet to have a chance to really explore the various towns I had been hiking to and through. With the larger town of Bude coming up I decided to opt out of the 9 mile hike and just take the bus.
After exploring for a little while I walked down to my inn just outside the city and checked in. They didn't have internet so I headed to the bar next door to Skype Cara and let my parents know I made it. Here I had an interesting conversation with an older Cornish man who quizzed me on fringe US trivia. After not being able to recall the origin of the word "yankee" or the exact arrangement of the very first American flag I was accused of "not even knowing my own history". Fortunately I was able to slip out after listening to him go on about how horrid Texas was 30 years ago when he was there.
As my bus went along I began to regret my a decision a little, seeing beautiful beaches surrounded by cliffs. Upon arriving in Bude my regrets were left behind. The large town (or small city) well balanced the feel of a quaint fishing port with a bustling vacation destination. After having a bite to eat I walked down to the beach/inlet going full on tourist, snapping pictures and looking all around.
The rest of the afternoon was pretty uneventful. When the sun was beginning to go down I headed out to take some night shots of the city. Although walking around Bude alone at night was a little creepy, it certainly paid off. I was able to get some pretty cool shots and the lights reflecting off the little canal perfectly completed the scene.
